2021.10.25 19:17 BIGBIRD_65 Is it bad I talk to my exes female best friend??
I met my gf before I knew her best friend. The best friend and I have ABSOLUTELY zero interest in each other. We have casual small talk but nothing more. The reason we started talking was my gf at the time was incredibly abusive and treated those closest to her like trash. So much that her friends even saw her mistreat me.
And her friend texted me asking me if she always did this and we started talking about how I could address this with my gf.
Fast forward. The best friend told my gf that she cannot treat other people the way that she does and the gf did not like that and it caused a massive fight and she wanted me to take her side. But I wholeheartedly agree with her friend.
And my gf forbid me from texting her and after we broke up, the friend and I still texted to try and talk about the best way to help her to stop being rude.
Well she found out and lost it and said it was so disrespectful. But she doesn’t understand that her awful actions pushed myself and her best friend together.

2021.10.25 19:17 henrytg37 Race report: Sub 3:30 in Rotterdam wearing local colours
### Race Information
* **Name:** Rotterdam Marathon
* **Date:** October 24, 2021
* **Distance:** 26.2 miles
* **Location:** Rotterdam, Netherlands
* **Training Peaks:** http://tpks.ws/LNB3BIGNSDRNBTI4FEYTRMETSU
* **Time:** 3:29:20
| Goal | Description | Completed? |
| A | Sub 3:30 | *Yes* |
This was my second marathon, after completing Berlin in 2018 in 3:55. I knew I wanted to do a marathon in 2021, after taking a year to focus on trailrunning/studies in 2019, and getting into Chicago but missing out because of corona in 2020. The lack of races last year and at the beginning of this one really impacted my motivation, and I really couldn't be bothered to go out and put the kilometres in when I really didn't know what I was doing it for. Sure, I maintained a base of 20-30kms a week, but absolutely not what I would usually be doing in a normal situation, and my fitness suffered as a result. What got me out my rut was The Great Virtual Race across Tennessee (organised by Laz), both in 2020 and 2021, which forced me to put in kms each week and actually feel like I was competing. Coming off mostly completing TGVRAT, I was feeling fit again and consistently doing over 50km per week. One of the first races to take place near me in Germany was the The Great Berlin 10k in August, which I PB'd in 42:55. That really convinced me that I could carry on and deliver a good marathon performance in the autumn. However it was actually quite a late decision to go for Rotterdam specifically, which left me only 9 weeks to train (more on that below). The motivation was mostly the date (wanted something late OctobeNovember), but also the fact that I was able to get an entry for around $50 on the secondary market, half the normal price. And obviously the fact that it's a top, IAAF Gold label marathon, with a reputation for a great atmosphere. Oh, and it was the 40th anniversary. I sold on it almost immediately.
As mentioned, way shorter training block than recommended at 9 weeks, but I came in with consistent miles and already in good shape, so I was pretty confident. Flexibility was at the forefront of my mind when I mapped out my training, with the exception of having one long run and an intervals/progression run per week. On top of that, I added another longish run (14-18km), and easier shorter run or medium tempo run depending on feeling.
I knew I would rather arrive at the start line undercooked and injury free than overtrained, which is why I didn't put pressure on myself to peak at more than 75km per week (my previous marathon training had gone badly in terms of injuries, as my coach at the time gave me too much too soon [close to 90km per week at peak]).
Overall, my new approach worked a lot better, as I didn't get injured, and completed all the long runs/high intensity sessions exactly to plan. That said, it wasn't perfect. I went too fast on one of my long runs (5:21/km, compared to 5:30/5:40), which meant that I decided to skip a 16km midweek run the next week as I didn't want to risk getting injured. I would have clearly also liked to not escalate the long runs quite as fast as I did (going from 18, to 21, to 26, to 28, to 31 and finally 32). I would have liked a week dip between some of them, but of course that's only possible with more time than I had.
The taper went great, and I really recovered well after of course being tired coming off the training block. I tapered two weeks before race week, with my long runs going down to 21k and then 13km (total weekly kms 52km and 47km).
Rotterdam was great fun, but the expo was pretty average, full of overpriced stuff, so I just got my number and left. I had planned my race shirt before going to Rotterdam, I decided to run in a Feyenoord shirt (the local football team) and this was the best pre-race decision I made (more on that below).
Stayed in a great hotel, 5 mins from the start line so it was a relaxed race morning, with some breakfast about two hours before the race start at 10. Plenty of space to warm up, and everything was super organised. I took a gel before starting, and was carrying five with me in my shorts.
My only real goal was sub 3:30, but I stuck the splits for 4:55/km on my hand to give me a few minutes to play with. I paced myself super well through the first half, and was comfortably handling the splits I gave myself. I was consistently hitting sub 4:55 kilometres, with many around the 4:50 mark. I was banking time, which I knew would give me some leeway in the final 10 (and boy did I need it!).
The atmosphere was incredible, the best of any race (any distance) I've ever run. The Feyenoord shirt I was wearing got me cheers every 30 seconds, and I couldn't not run fast with the crowd chanting my name and the dopamine going through the roof. Moments like that remind you just how sh*t corona has made running, and what we'd all been missing.
The course was super runnable, and after only a few kilometres I felt like I really had a comfortable amount of space to move around and run without pressure.
The huge positive energy/adrenaline continued until about km 31, which is when the legs started hurting. My fuelling had been to plan and perfect until then (one every 10km), and I had two gels left at that point. Even until km 35, I managed to maintain sub 5:00/km pace, but that's when shit started to hit the fan.
I was totally expecting it, and had done a lot of visualisation work preparing for that moment, so I handled it OK. I blocked out everything and just focused on putting one foot in front of the other, allowing myself to drop the pace a bit, pretty sure I'd banked enough time early on to get me in under 3:30. That said, you got a bit light headed, almost a feeling of being slightly high/in tunnel vision as you battle through the last kilometres. With 1km to go I wasn't sure anymore how much I had to spare, so I dug deep and dropped back under 5:00/km for the last 800 or so metres. That got the job done - in the end with 40 seconds to spare. I thought it would be more comfortable given how good I felt until km 32, but that's marathon racing. It's brutal, you go from great to terrible in a minute and it's a test of your mental fortitude.
### Post-race/future plans/improvements to make/advice for others
Emotional post race as I got my medal, there's nothing like setting a goal, publishing your goal, telling your friends and then going out and doing it. Especially after a shorter than it should have been training plan. I took 26 minutes of my previous time, which can only give you an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction.
My amazing hotel allowed me to check out before the race but come back for a shower and to pick up my stuff, and get some food. Walking is still difficult, even as I write this, but it was totally worth it!
In terms of future goals/plans, I think anyone who runs under 3:30 has to think sub 3 in the next year to 18 months. When I look at how I did considering the training I had, I'm convinced I can do it, as I have a long list of things I know I can improve:
